Week 1 – Tool: Blogs – June 11 – June 17

  1. Become familiar with the class blog.
  2. Learn about blogs and locate some popular education blogs.
  3. Create a blog of your own on Edublogs or Blogger.
  4. Register your blog on the class blog.
  5. Complete Reflections on your own learning blog.

  

Week 2 – Tool: RSS – June 18 – June 24

  1. Complete comments on 3 other blogs – see Weekly Comment Rotation.
  2. Learn about RSS and readers
  3. Set up your own reader using Google Reader, Netvibes, or Pageflakes.
  4. Subscribe to the class blog and to your classmates blog.
  5. Subscribe to Educational Blogs and to Fun Blogs
  6. Complete Reflections on your own learning blog.

  

Week 3 – Tool: Podcasts – June 25 – July 1

  1. Complete comments on 3 other blogs – see Weekly Comment Rotation.
  2. Learn about podcasts.
  3. Find and listen to podcasts.  Subscribe to the ones you like through your RSS reader and/or iTunes?
  4. Create a short podcast and post it on your blog.
  5. Continue to comment on the class blog, each other’s blogs and on other blogs
  6. Complete Reflections on your own learning blog.
  7. Complete comments on 3 other blogs – see rotation assignment.

  

Week 4 – Tool: Wikis – July 9 – July 15

  1. Complete comments on 3 other blogs – see Weekly Comment Rotation.
  2. Read and define what a wiki is.
  3. Add to the class wiki
  4. Start a wiki of your own Decide on a plan and purpose for a wiki in your area
  5. Share your wiki with the class
  6. Contribute to someone else’s wiki
  7. Learn to subscribe to a wiki through your RSS reader.
  8. Comment on the class blog about the location of your wiki, and your plans for it.
  9. Complete Reflections on your own learning blog.

Week 5 – Tool: Media – July 16 – July 22

  1. Complete comments on 3 other blogs – see Weekly Comment Rotation.
  2. Learn about shared media.
  3. Create a photo sharing account
  4. Add a photo to your blog and/or wiki from your account.
  5. Create an account on TeacherTube.
  6. Learn how to embed TeacherTube Videos and YouTune Videos on your blog and wiki pages.
  7. Continue to comment on the class blog, each other’s blogs and on other blogs
  8. Complete Reflections on your own learning blog.

  

Week 6 – Tool of Choice – July 23 – 29

  1. Complete comments on 3 other blogs – see Weekly Comment Rotation.
  2. Choose a tool not covered in previous weeks.
  3. Learn about that tool and write a blog entry on how to use the tool and it’s uses in your job.
  4. Comment on the class blog about the tool you have chosen with links to the tool and a brief summary fo what it is.
  5. Complete Reflections on your own learning blog.
  6. Record your plans for implementing what you have learned into your class and how can you train your colleagues in these tools. 

  

Week 7 – Follow-up Week – required to receive course credit

  1. This will be a face to face meeting on September 18th at Cedar Valley.  The meeting will be from 12 – 4 and will include lunch.
  2. Demonstrate to the class a tool you have incorporated into your job
  3. Brainstorm what you need as support to continue implementation of Web 2.0 tools in your job.
  4. Debrief course and brainstorm ideas for a Level 2 course.
  5. Complete comments on 3 other blogs – see Weekly Comment Rotation.
